Your dog and cat are your family. So their health is always on your mind. When they get sick, you do everything in your power to make them feel comfortable and get the help they need. When buying food, you invest in the best for your fur kid. You want them to have shinny fur, great teeth, and a digestive system that is working properly 😉

Basically, you want your pet to feel comfortable and enjoy life.

If you’re like me, you want to be well educated about the food you give your pet. You want to know what will harm them, and what wont. You want to know the best flea medicine for them. You want to know if they can get sunburnt (which they can).

So where do we go to get this information? Who do we talk to? Who do we trust? Where do we buy our pet Supplies?

Drum Roll Please…

Well, let me introduce you to a wonderful family that is educated, trustworthy, friendly AND is your trusted Pet Advisor.

Everyone, please meet Brandon and Angela of Canadian Pet Connection. They are part of a family run pet business that truly is amazing. Whether you’re looking for quality pet food, supplies, advice, and even delivery, you must connect with Canadian Pet Connection. They are both an International eCommerce and local retail store based in the beautiful town Meaford.

CanadianPetConnection

Brandon and Angela, can you introduce your pet business to our readers?

Canadian Pet Connection is a family owned and operated business located in Meaford, Ontario. We are specialists in pet health and nutrition, and for almost thirty years have promoted responsible, healthy pet lifestyles. After more than two decades in Oakville, we relocated our business to Meaford in 2017. As a pet speciality store, we carefully hand-select the best-quality pet foods, treats, and supplements in this ever expanding marketplace. We also offer free delivery between Collingwood, Owen Sound, and surrounding areas.

How did Canadian Pet Connection come to be? Why do you do what you do?

In the early 1990’s, Lorne (founder and President of CPC) was devoted to training his champion obedience trial dogs. Eventually, Lorne grew frustrated with the lack of healthy pet products in the Toronto area, and was consistently importing high-quality pet supplies from the USA. As a businessman and entrepreneur, Lorne quickly recognized a market need for healthy pet products, and in 1993 Canadian Pet Connection opened its doors. It was the first of its kind, as there were no pet health food stores in the Greater Toronto Area. Fun fact: Before Canadian Pet Connection was born, Lorne ran a retail business selling pet safety equipment, such as seat belts and flotation devices for pets.

How long have you been in business?Almost 30 years, now. Time flies!

Canadian Pet Connection. Pet experts.

What does Canadian Pet Connection offer?

We are specialists in pet problem-solving! We offer free support to pet owners, and bring a completely holistic approach to pet health and nutrition. Oftentimes, when pets are suffering from certain health problems, like skin and coat issues, the underlying cause is often diet related. As a primarily online business, we offer more than 10,000 items online, and ship everywhere in Canada.

Do you cater to all breeds and sizes?

Absolutely! In fact, we have in-depth experience with everything from tea-cup breeds to giant breeds! And it’s not just dogs we specialize in. We have in-depth knowledge of all companion pets, from dogs and cats, to ferrets, chameleons, and everything in between.

You have an education in Animal Nutrition?  Can you tell us a little bit about this?

Absolutely, education is where it starts. Between all of us at Canadian Pet Connection, we have dozens of diplomas and certifications from courses, workshops, seminars, and more. Our education is constantly ongoing as this industry continues to evolve at such a fast rate. We are fortunate to have a wide-spanning network of pet industry experts, including veterinarians, scientists and researchers, food developers, and manufacturers, to name a few.

How do you know what nutritional diet is best for a dog?

Long gone are the days where there was a single “best” dog food. Now, with today’s competitive marketplace, there are several top-quality dog food brands. We are supporters of raw diets – be it frozen, dehydrated, or air-dried – you cannot beat unprocessed whole foods. We understand every situation is unique, so we work closely with our clients to find the best approach to their dog’s long-term health and wellness.

Can you enlighten us on facts around RAW diets?

There are many false truths about raw diets circulating the internet, most of them pertaining to bacteria issues. This can easily scare off a curious dog owner new to the concept of raw feeding. To put it simply, raw diets are among the best in the business. Safe food handling practices need to be exercised, as cross contamination can pose a health risk to humans. Be careful, though! Raw pet foods are not regulated, so it is the pet owner’s responsibility to ensure they are purchasing a safe and reliable product. That’s where we come in!

Do you have a funny story for our readers?

When our business was in Oakville, we hosted an annual children’s Christmas toy drive for several years. Every year, on the last day of the toy drive, the local newspaper would do a photoshoot as Lorne and Brandon buried themselves beneath the massive mountain of toys – with only their heads sticking out!
